NIOKA WORKMAN is a current Bronx residence. She is an avid reader, performer, curator and composer. Traveling with her band, Firey String Sistas, she has appeared at the Sugar Hill Music Festival, International African Art Festival, Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival, Coltrane Day, Baby Grand Jazz and the Hudson River Museum. Nioka is committed to providing empowering opportunities for young people interested in the arts. In 2011, she founded the Firey Strings Company to highlight emerging female artists with distinct voices. Currently, as co founder of 52 Studio Arts formally known as Music For the People NYC (MFTP), she partners with community organizations to create art programs and performances. Her organization has serviced over 1000 children in the Bronx, Harlem and Brooklyn areas. As a composer, Nioka has received several commissions for her work, such as the American Composer’s Fund, Meet the Composer Fund and the Bronx Council on the Arts- Art Fund/New York City Department of Cultural Affiars . Nioka’s post COVID19 events includes MATA, Firey String Sistas with Dyane Harvey , Women Of The Calabash and several exciting dance theater collaborations.
