di.vi.sion arts and education
Di.vi.sion is a Bronx-based, 35-musician group founded by Kurt Briggs. The name is inspired by the group’s flexibility to divide forces as needed. The core group is the di.vi.sion piano trio: violinist Kurt Briggs, cellist Matt Goeke, and pianist Renée Cometa Briggs. Advocates of new music, di.vi.sion has presented concerts in Cutting Edge Concerts New Music Festival at Symphony Space, Brooklyn New Music Collective at Spectrum, Saugerties Pro Musica, Islip Council on the Arts series, Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture, Goff Memorial Hall, Hudson River Museum, Roerich Museum, Bronx Museum of Art, New Jersey City University, and St. Peter’s Church at Citicorp amongst others. Their concert series in the Bronx, “di.vi.sion concerts”, has received funding from BCA’s community engagement grants for the last ten years. Di.vi.sion’s commitment to contemporary music is reflected in their six published CDs on Albany, Ravello and Ben Yar Productions, and the video series “di.vi.sion concerts/online” which features interviews with composers and performances of their works.
