The Community Arts Partnership organized the first Spring Writes Literary Festival in 2009 to shine a light on the abundance of literary talent across the Finger Lakes region, and to bring writers and audiences together. Since then, it has grown from 14 events that first year, to 40 events in 2022!
The 2023 event will feature about 30 live and Zoom) literary themed events from May 3 to the 14, with about 10 writing workshops continuing through September.
Events and participants are chosen through 1) collaborations with community organizations, and 2) a Request for Proposals due March 5 at 9pm.
One priority is for the majority of festival offerings to feature diverse voices, which can include race, ethnicity, culture, identity, challenges, and age (events featuring children and teens). While we may prioritize Tompkins County writers in some cases, writers from other counties are welcome to apply if they or their subject matter reflects that priority.
