Sandra García Rivera has captured audiences throughout the U.S., U.K., and Caribbean as a spoken word poet, and vocalist alongside musical legends. With two self-published chapbooks: Divination of the Mistress and Shoulder High, and handmade art-books of her poem That Kiss, additional poems appear in publications including the LA Review, Centro Journal, Hostos Review, Urban Latino Magazine, Endangered Species, and Caribbean Erotic. 2015 Artist-in-Residence at Headland Center for the Arts, she has an MFA in Poetry. As host/curator of the Lunada Literary Lounge at Galería de la Raza, the series was awarded “Best Literary Night in the Bay Area” (2016/2017). An accomplished vocalist, she's performed with artists and ensembles including William Cepeda, John Santos, Jerry Medina, Xiomara Fortuna, Rico Pabón, Yerbabuena, Yaya, La Mixta Criolla, and The Femme Nameless Afrobeat Ensemble. She’s mentored more than a thousand children, editing numerous anthologies, inspired by Piri Thomas, “Every child is born a poet.”
