The Art of the Bridge

In 2015 the beloved and beautiful City Island Bridge, which opened on July 4, 1901, was finally closed so that it could be demolished and replaced by a new bridge. Over the past 115 years, artists have made images of the bridge that reflect its significance in this Bronx community. The Nautical Museum plans an exhibition of these images–from 1905 postcards to photographs, prints, and paintings created by Bronx artists.
