Hunts Point Heritage time capsules: interactive South Bronx history tour is an multimedia project dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of the Hunts Point area in the South Bronx. Its primary objective is to create a valuable resource accessible to the entire community, educational institutions, families, and visitors.
Dennis Darkeem is an artist, educator, and community and cultural practitioner His work is inspired by creating community and reflects the many connections between people, history and environment. As a mixed media and multidimensional artist, Dennis makes experiential works that engage, enlighten and educate. His practice involves building layers of new and old experiences to form new narratives. He uses installations, photography, sculpture, drawing, painting, sound and performance as vessels for conveying and balancing the ideas of transformation, generation and honor. His aesthetic is inspired by his Indigenous Yamassee Yat’siminoli and African-American cultural heritage, and he incorporates traditional craft customs, storytelling, history, and ancient connections to earth and water into his work. Through his work, he strives to build community and create transformative spaces where diverse groups of people can become engaged and inspired through art and conversation.
