LIGHT & SHADOW: RETHINKING VISUAL SPACES
JUNE 15TH - AUGUST 19TH
Valeria Divinorum, The Hyper Dimension, 2021, Stained Glass Sculpture, Dimensions Variable.
The Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos is returning home with the ground-breaking exhibition Light & Shadow: Rethinking Visual Spaces, featuring the works of eight artists that incorporate elements of light and shadow to create visually powerful narratives. Some of the artists use technology in their artworks to redefine the role of light in visual art. Addressing the polarized role of ever-changing technology and its effects, Light & Shadow: Rethinking Visual Spaces, invites viewers to experience light’s relationship to our environment and ecosystems. These works give us a new perspective on how to experience light (or lack thereof) creatively and thematically.
This exhibition is part of Longwood's 2022 season calendar focused on Polarities and exploring the dualities that Bronx artists engage in with their art practices and at varying scales, from the personal and political to the global and historical. Over the course of the year, the Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos will provide a space for critically engaging with the polarized political and social forces of our time and the way in which Bronx artists reflect on this contemporary moment.
