Kar’mel Small
Kar’mel Antonyo Wade Small, raised in the South Bronx, began his dance journey with American and International social dance Ballroom styles under Pierre Dulaine and Tatiana Keegan. He later trained at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and earned a BFA in Dance Performance and Composition from SUNY Purchase. Kar’mel has danced on prestigious venues like Jacob’s Pillow, The Joyce Theater, and Lincoln Center, and performed work by choreographers including Martha Graham, Eleo Pomare, Jerome Robbins, Damani Pompey, and Kevin Wynn. As a freelancer and educator, Kar’mel has taught at Gibney and Modega and assisted collegial level classes, like Princeton University, USC, and Slippery Rock University. Kar’mel has been seen on HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness and TELFARTV. Kar'mel is recognized as a 2022 Chez Bushwick AiR recipient, where he continued developing his artistic journal, project:MEMORABILIA. Kar’mel joined A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham in 2022, touring with the company until 2024.
