Paula Nadelstern

Paula Nadelstern lives and makes her quilts on the same block in the Bronx where she was born. She has achieved international recognition for her innovative and complex designs inspired by the bilateral symmetry of kaleidoscopic images. Analyzing not only what a scope is but also what it isn’t has steered her in lots of valuable directions. Employing a technique that is counterintuitive to the conventional quilt process, Nadelstern obscures the seams that join pieces of fabric. The fluid effect injects a feeling of motion into an otherwise static image. Honored by inclusion in the Twentieth Century’s 100 Best American Quilts, her designs were showcased in the American Folk Art Museum’s first one-person exhibition highlighting the work of a contemporary quilt artist (2009). In the truest tradition of American quiltmaking, Nadelstern shares her imagination, techniques, and talent through workshops and publications. She designs quiltmaking fabrics for Benartex, Inc.”
