
Maia Wheaton is a multidisciplinary artist hailing from Harlem, NY and currently residing in the Bronx. Her practice spans multiple forms including poetry, film, experimental video, and mixed media collage. Maia’s work centers Black women with the focus of highlighting their complexity, interrogating identity, and finding beauty in the ordinary. She is motivated by her desires to gain a deeper understanding of herself, and to reveal a fuller and more expansive picture of who Black folx are. Maia is a current fellow in the Downtown Community Television Center’s (DCTV) Young Women of Cinema program and a recipient of the 2024 Golden Arrows Grant Award.
