
Josafat Concepción (any pronouns) is a Canarian filmmaker and theatermaker based in the Bronx, known for their queer/punk approach to film and performance. Since 2003, they have directed and edited experimental films, documentaries, and music videos, working with formats like Super-8, 16mm, and VHS. As a theatermaker, Josafat has contributed to experimental and collective performance works, blending film with stage design. In addition to their creative practice, they are committed to educating emerging filmmakers through their work at The Bronx Filmmakers Collective (TBxF). Josafat leads Junior Script Lab, a screenwriting workshop for teens, and the Lavender Film Lab, a queer experimental workshop that encourages filmmakers to challenge traditional norms and explore bold, unconventional cinematic territory. As a film curator, they also strive to expand audiences' exposure to daring, boundary-pushing films, cultivating richer, more thrilling viewing experiences.
