"STOMP" THE VIOLENCE

DFOY @ Butler Community Center plans to hold a one day anti-gun violence block festival featuring local guest speakers, musical guest artist, community service providers and STEP Dance Artists/groups. The event will be hosted and coordinated by our Dance 4 Life Step Coordinator, Alliyah Santos. Alliyah is a 17 year old STEP Dancer/Instructor who has competed in the DYCD Step Dance Competition for more than five years and has competed at the world famous Apollo on several occasions. The theme of the festival is “STOMP” the violence. Youth lead Step Dance teams will perform routines addressing the issue of neighborhood gun violence, promoting positive social values and themes that will unify the community and bring peace to our neighboring communities. Through collaboration with our community partners, (MAP Stake Holders, Bronx Lebanon, Bronx Documentary Center, PSA7, Claremont Neighborhood Centers, Chaz Greene Dance Company, Health First and Bronx Health Link) we will provide food, giveaways, prizes and awards to the performing groups. Butler Houses is located in one of NYC’s most notable communities plagued with the issue of violent crimes and domestic violence.
