The visual arts workshop series will inspire seniors to face and embrace their physical facial features as well as their spiritual contours in the creation of a painting of themselves. In this multifaceted exercise in artistic expression, the seniors will be asked to summon some of their greatest hurt and then share it through the creation of a self-portrait, strengthening their storytelling courage. This activity will provide our elders with the forum to express age, ancestry, and acumen to share their triumphs, talents, and real talk in a supportive and cooperative creative environment of elders, which they can in turn tell to the next generations, who continue to endure the pain of poverty and the promise of opportunity in the poorest congressional district in America.
