Development Manager

PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now, now celebrating its eighth season, is an annual festival of visionary opera-theatre and music-theatre works by pioneering contemporary artists from New York City and around the world. The festival is the only one of its kind in the United States – presenting fully produced premieres, national and international presentations, and work-in-progress showings of original genre-bending works by both emerging and career artists from the contemporary classical opera-theatre and music-theatre idiom. The Development Manager will be an essential part of the PROTOTYPE team that works between Beth Morrison Projects and HERE and will report to BMP’s Director of Development and HERE’s Director of External Affairs. The Development Manager will work in close collaboration with the Festival Producer and Festival co-founders and directors: Beth Morrison, Creative Producer of Beth Morrison Projects, Kristin Marting, Founding Artistic Director of HERE, Kim Whitener, Creative Producer and former Producing Director of HERE, and Jecca Barry, Executive Director of Beth Morrison Projects. This individual ensures the entire team is working together to secure Festival and project-specific institutional grants, individual donations, and corporate sponsorships.

Duties:
• Understand yearly funding goals for the festival and its projects and collaborate with two organizations to raise the funds for PROTOTYPE programming and build deeper relationships for the Festival
• Oversee and maintain the year-round fundraising calendar
• Attend weekly meetings with supervisors (HERE and BMP fundraising leadership) and participate in development meetings with the Festival’s co-directors to move fundraising efforts forward
• Meet with four co-directors individually on regular basis to further specific donor cultivation strategies
• Conduct prospect research to identify potential donors and funding opportunities for the festival
• Collaborate with the team to create and implement individual giving strategies and campaigns aimed at increasing individual giving for the Festival
• Organize cultivation and stewardship events aimed at deepening relationships with donors and prospective donors of the Festival
• Communicate and meet with donors to the Festival, including providing concierge ticketing services and ensuring successful experiences with the Festival
• Assist Festival team with the planning and execution of a Benefit event for PROTOTYPE in January during the Festival and/or at other points in the year, as determined
• Write, edit, and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals and sponsorship requests
• Research and surface potential corporate sponsorships, and design sponsorship activities
• Communicate with both organization’s financial personnel to create funding budgets for applications and reports
• Strategize and pursue project-specific funding plans when possible
• Write and submit project-specific grant reports and updates as needed
• Collect and prepare work samples and other ancillary materials needed for funding applications
• Work closely with the PROTOTYPE Producer, Festival Associate, Festival Interns, and PROTOTYPE marketing team to keep fundraising information up to date on the PROTOTYPE website and all marketing materials
• Attend performances and events during the festival in January
Attend performances and events throughout the year linked to the opera-theatre and music-theatre field

Qualifications
• Minimum 1-2 years successful funder or donor management experience in a nonprofit setting or 3-4 years of total professional experience strongly preferred;
• Excitement about collaborating with two organizations and a large team;
• Passion for contemporary opera and new music field;
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and resilient within a rapidly changing environment;
• Self-starter, organized, disciplined, and highly detail-oriented;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both individually and as part of a team;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Familiarity with OvationTix a plus;
• Flexible personality with sense of humor strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or significant comparable experience in Development/Fundraising.

Salary is mid-40’s with benefits.
