Bronx Concert Singers 34th Season

Bronx Concert Singers 34th Season
The Spring program spans Romantic to Modern periods with works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Fauré, Mahler, Vaughn Williams, Korngold and Amy Beach. The poignancy of Korngold’s famous Pierrot’s Aria and Marietta’s Aria from Die tote Stadt are brilliantly echoed in Mahler’s Adagietto (Symphony No. 5.) Amy Beach (American 1867-1944) is the only woman composer whose name is inscribed on the granite ‘Shell’ of the Boston Pops; we perform her “Praise the Lord, O my Soul” as part of a revival movement of her work. Beethoven’s jubilant “Hallelujah!” ends a sometimes somber, but often intense program.
