Community Filmmakers Lab

Workforce Development & Continuing Education presents an excellent opportunity for community members to enroll in non-credit courses to train and develop creative filmmaking talent. Our goal is to develop creative talent in the Bronx and beyond. Whether you are a beginner or seeking to advance, our program is for you.

Online Courses Summer 2020
​Screenplay: Writing for the Screen
Meets Tuesday 6-9pm for 15 Weeks starting on July 7, 2020
This is an introductory class on screenwriting. This writing course helps to develop student stories into a screenplay draft
Instructor: Pedro Resto
Pedro Resto is a seasoned filmmaker and educator who works in both the general and Latino film industry. He has produced and directed music videos and commercials for the NFL, Time Warner, Partnership for A Drug-Free America, Heifer International, and many others. Additionally, Pedro was part of the producing team on two feature films includingCrossBronx starring Entourage’s Jerry Ferrara and New Girl’s Max Greenfield. Pedro also developed a Cinema Studies program for Washington Irving High School​ in NYC. He served as a Dean of students and was voted one of the top 5% of educators in the country.

Directing: Vision and Process
Meets Wednesday 6-9pm for 15 Weeks starting tentatively on July 8, 2020
This is an introductory course on directing for film and video. It will teach students the process of a director's preparation.
Instructor: Roderick Giles- For 15 years, Roderick Giles was the CEO of Clarendon Entertainment Inc, a production/distribution company. Giles is an experienced content creator with over 25 years working in TV and film production. His work in television includes Showtime at the Apollo, In the Mix, The Source Awards, The Best of BBC, WNYCTV Public Broadcast Station, and FX Fox's Cable Network. While at PBS he received Emmy nominations for his camera work. Giles has also worked with noted directors such as Spike Lee, Gordon Parks, and William Greaves. His work has premiered at film festivals nationwide.
