The creation of a mural, designed with the community, for the community, to replace a mural we painted back in 2018. We are repainting the Norwood mural located at 207 and Bainbridge, keeping the essence of the first mural but reimaging it. This is an "all hands on" project!
Laura Alvarez is an illustrator, author, designer, visual artist, muralist, community activist, and educator. Ecology, tradition, life, change, and self-improvement, are elements present in her work. Laura is obsessed with calligraphy and making words a tangible image in the eye of the viewer. Laura sees words as a thesis to an emotion or idea and it is a necessity for her to transmit that message. Multiplicity, repetition, and accumulation of elements is a big part of her artwork, where each element is part of the whole story that can only be told through the one to the many. This lifelong project helps her to understand herself and the world she lives in and at the same time interact with her surroundings and the community she lives in.
