Bronx River Art Center, Inc (BRAC - www.bronxriverart.org) seeks a passionate Ceramics/Pottery Teaching Artist. The successful candidate will collaborate to oversee our popular Ceramics/Pottery program in our recently restored and fully equipped 18,000 sq. ft. facility.
The right candidate will be an experienced working potter and/or ceramicist. They will teach after school Ceramics/Hand Building for youth (generally 4-6pm) and/or evening Pottery/Wheel Throwing for teens/adults (generally 6:30-8:30pm) for 10 weeks beginning in October. Position pays $131.25 per class. Teaching Artist is paid for an additional 30min. to set up before and clean up after their classes. Candidate will help keep our fully equipped ceramics studio with eight potters wheels, three electric kilns and an array of handbuilding tools and supplies clean and available. They will assist with the scheduling, firing and unloading of the kilns. Successful candidates will be invited back to teach in future sessions or workshops.
This position offers the potential of expanding the candidate’s role to ceramics studio technician, if they are willing and able to commit to a long-term part-time engagement of keeping supplies updated, reprocessing clay, firing kiln and generally managing the ceramics studio.
