The Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA) Youth Engagement Program is continuing with documentary photographer Jessica Kirkham in the online workshop series, Tell Your Story with Photography: Documenting Your Experience. In this second workshop series, students will create a visual story (approx 8-10 images) of their COVID-19 experiences through photographs and journal entries. Using the cameras on their phones, students will document their experiences with a self reflective lens as well as turn the camera towards their communities (however they may be comfortable). Students will be encouraged to explore their communities experience using their skills of critical thinking and observing.
Youth are recognizing that they can use their voices to make change. Photography is a tool that can shed light on social justice issues and can promote individual and collective healing. Through this workshop series, students will be encouraged to document their individual experiences and those of their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the social issues that are impacting them (such as BLM, LGBTQIA, climate change, immigration, etc.) and what future they envision for themselves and their communities.
**Please note that eventbrite registration counts only as pre-registration. Once pre-registered, a registration packet with the necessary forms will be emailed to the parent or legal guardian to complete. Once the consent form, media release and code of conduct forms are signed and returned, the participant will be considered "registered " for the class. An email confirming registration will be send to all participants before the start of the workshop series.
Registration closes on Monday, September 28th. Space is limited and on a first come, first served basis.
