Author and essayist Emily Bernard wrote, "The scar and the story are eternally connected." Writing our stories may help in facing our scars, retracing a time we were celebrated, and may even help us see something or someone we didn't notice before. In this 4-week writing workshop, participants will explore key elements in memoir writing and personal essays/short stories. Through writing exercises and short readings, participants will identify and develop writing and revision techniques to tell their own personal stories. By the end of the workshop, students will create a short piece of memoir writing which they will have the opportunity to submit to the Bronx Memoir Project Volume VI Anthology.
