What's Happening this month...

BX1: The Second Bronx Artist Biennial is the highlight of the June 6th Bronx Culture Trolley showcasing the talents of Bronx artists who are featured winners of the borough’s BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Individual Artist Fellowship, a product of the Bronx Council on the Arts’ mission to support and nurture Bronx artists. The BX1 Festival is a celebration of these artists’ continued dedication to excellence as well as to honor those who have continued to live, work and produce art in the Bronx. 2007 BRIO Awards Presentation Ceremony
Twenty-two Bronx artists will be recipients of the Bronx Council on the Arts’ (BCA) prestigious BRIO (Bronx Recognizes Its Own) Award for artistic excellence at a June 6th award presentation ceremony at 5:45pm at the Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos Community College. This ceremony is one of many activities that make up BCA’s BX1: Second Bronx Artist Biennial. This event will coincide with BCA’s First Wednesday/Bronx Culture Trolley. Click here for details.
BX1: The Second Bronx Artist Biennial Exhibition

"Ponder Far Places" and "Best Theatre," two works by 2007 BRIO winner Peter Cabot on view at BX1: The Second Bronx Artist Biennial Exhibition (on view at the Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos June 6th thru August 25th) featuring eighteen 2006 & 2007 BRIO winners who are visual and media artists. Bronx Food & Arts Festival
Sunday, June 24th, 2007 / 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm

Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr., The Bronx Council on the Arts, and The Bronx Tourism Council invite Bronx-based Artists & Arts Groups to take part in the Bronx Food & Arts Festival, the Grand Finale of the Bronx Week 2007 Celebration.

Literary Arts Fellowship and Residency
Guidelines, Requirements, and Application are now available

  • Literary Arts Fellowship and Residency program awards two nine-month fellowships annually to fiction writers, poets, playwrights, and screenwriters who reside in the Bronx.
  • A $5,000 award is given, and a residency at the Bronx Writers' Center is required as part of the fellowship's community service component.
  • Applications must be received by 5:00pm on Friday, June 15, 2007.  There is no entry fee.
