A Bronx native, Maleek Washington is a performer, choreographer, mentor, and teaching artist whose artistic voice melds movement, theater, music, and visual art into experiential works. Maleek began his dance training at Harlem School of the Arts, Broadway Dance Center, and LaGuardia High School, and attended Boston Conservatory before joining CityDance Ensemble. Maleek collaborated with Kyle Abraham’s A.I.M for 4 seasons before becoming the first African-American male to perform in Punch Drunk’s Sleep No More. Today, Maleek is a 6-season dancer with Camille A. Brown & Dancers and is associate choreographer on shows, like the Grammy-winning “Porgy and Bess” at the Metropolitan Opera and the 7 Tony-nominated “for colored girls…” Maleek’s choreographic commissions include Pepatian/BAAD!, New York Live Arts, Gibney, Movement Research at Judson Church, and in Australia and Europe. Maleek is a 2022 Princess Grace Award Winner in Choreography and was co-curator of the 2019 Bronx APAP at Hostos.
